CHAPTER II: “THE ARRIVAL” - My Living place

                                      Application for a room




     On this application form, you will have to fill in your preferred room type, maximum rental price and the rental period. You can only apply for housing, if you have been accepted by your faculty or school. We will see to it that you will receive the acceptance by email before June 3 next.
You can apply for accommodation via the following link. The link will direct you to the webpage of the online application system called EMBARK. EMBARK is the system used by the UvA/HvA that allows international students to apply for various services such as international student housing. If have already have an EMBARK account, you can use the same login to apply for accommodation.







                                               Rental Period


The rental periods for UvA/HvA students are always fixed periods. We strongly advise you not to choose one semester if your study has the duration of two semesters or more. If you choose only one semester we cannot guarantee you an extension. In case an extension is granted, you will have to pay the UvA/HvA fee twice. Therefore, please select the period corresponding with the duration of your study with a maximum of one year.

To fill in the application you will need the following code: DT. You will also have to fill in your student number. If you have not received a student number, please list the following number: 5555.






                                                       Deadline


The deadline for submitting the housing application is 6 June 2011. If you submit your housing application before 6 June 2011, you will receive a discount on the UvA/HvA fee. The UvA/HvA fee for one semester will be reduced to  250€ and for two semesters to 425€. In addition, we guarantee that we will be able to provide you with a room if your application is submitted before 6 June 2011.You can expect the room offer via email from De Key or DUWO between 1 July and 15 August 2011.

           Two steps to guarantee the reservation



Ø  Complete and return the Reservation form by e-mail within 3 working days after the date of this e-mail.


Ø  Pay the Deposit and Administration fee: to guarantee the room we require you to transfer 539,21€

 (389,21 € deposit + 150 €  administration fee) through the bank and provide us with proof of payment within 5 days after the date of this e-mail. See our bank details below.

Make sure the last name of the tenant and the reservation number are mentioned in the description of the bank transfer. After you have made a bank transfer please fax or e-mail the proof of payment and bring it with you to Amsterdam. Upon arrival at our office you are expected to pay the first month's rent and the optional bedding (25€). On arrival payments can be made by:
v  credit card (VISA, EUROCARD or MASTERCARD)
v  debit card with the “Maestro” logo
v  Dutch pin card





Please note! Credit and debit cards have a limit to the amount that can be charged in one go and/or in one day/month. If you want to pay using a credit card, make sure your card allows you to make the whole first payment, contact your credit card company for details.
